KearneyNebraskaRoofDamageMay29.jpg

Tornado Damage Kearney NE on May 29.  Here, you can see the gouges in the side of this house.  This home was (is) pretty tough.  The damage was caused by the force of the wind hitting the side, then going upwards at over 185KPH.  But the home is still standing.  If a tornado warning is issued for your area, get to sturdy shelter right away.
And stay away from windows!

Tornado Damage Kearney NE on May 29.  Another view from a slightly different angle.  Here, you can see the roof peeled back by the force of the wind.  Any area can have a tornado spawned by a severe thunderstorm, and sometimes all it takes is 1 second.  You are responsible for your own safety.
Remember: Go to sturdy shelter on the lowest floor and stay away from windows!
It's your best bet.

SunsetMammatusontheConvergenceLineMay30.jpg

Thunderstorm Anvil Butler MO. May 30.  I wasn't expecting much today, but storms did fire along the convergence line in Missouri.  The towers went up, then a few more joined them.  We settled on a storm in Lamar MO.  I tried to get a few lightning images after dark, but I never got the light or angle I wanted.

NightExposureImageBingerOK.TornadoMay31.jpg

Tornado Warning Binger Oklahoma May 31.  This tornadic supercell was tracking ESE and it was a bit of a haul to intercept it.  Storms did fire in my target area in the early afternoon hours, but Jack and I keep driving to catch this tornadic storm after dark, actually around midnight.  This 6 second exposure captured lightning that illuminated the Wall Cloud and below that, you can see the tornado.  It wasn't there long, but I managed to get a shot if it.
A cool night image if I say so.

InflowintoThunderstormBaseJune01.jpg

Severe T-Storm Warning Julesburg NE June 01.  This storm had almost everything going for it.  2 Wall Clouds, inflow bands, shear markers, and did I forget to mention hail shafts!  This is the storm that dented the crap out of our hood, roof (bang!...bang!!), and fenders.  I thought the windshield was going to bust, but it held up!  We drove in the hail core, then after 5 minutes, out the other side.  I thought, "oh well, the van isn't brand new any more", so we turned around and went in again!

Severe T-Storm Warning Ogallala NE June 01.
This tower went up on the outflow boundary from the hail storm we played in a few times.  It was a real shame that the road we were driving on was in the path of a storm with 3" hail
.  Can you believe that?  What are the odds?
I was just going out for a drive.
Minding my own business too.
Too bad about the hood...
(& roof, fenders, quarter panels, etc,)

NebraskaTornadicSupercellwFunnelinCoreJune04.jpg

Tornado Warning Elwood NE June 04.  We saw 3 supercell thunderstorms today, and 2 of them had tornado warnings on them.  This storm had a nice green core with a beaver tail flowing into it's base.  A sign of storm organization.  A good thing when you're looking for a severe thunderstorm.  Just north of Devils Gap Nebraska.

NebraskaLPSupercellJune04.jpg

SVR T-Storm Warning Eustis NE June 04.  We got right under this Low Precipitation (LP) storm.   It was ALL updraft.  It was at 65,000 feet tall but no rain.  It was a weird feeling and I felt something just wasn't right.  When I saw the rear flank start to open, I said "We gotta go now!" so we got out of the area fast.  Never stay in the rear flank.  The core was cool but without any more upward forcing, it didn't have a chance to build stronger.  Image by Ron

NebraskaTornadicSupercellwLightninga1June04.jpg

Tornado Warning Moorefield NE June 04.  This tornado warned supercell was spawned east of Denver Colorado and kept going for 6 hours!  It had multiple tornado warnings on it, but I thought, "that storm is 200km away, it'll die before I can get to it".  Well, it didn't.  It produced a tornado about 2 miles away from these lightning shots.  It had flash flood & tornado warnings on it at the same time.

NebraskaTornadicSupercellwLightningaJune04.jpg

Tornado Warning Moorefield NE June 04.  Same storm but shot under different lighting conditions.  I think I'll try to do more lightning images like these.  I'm just getting a taste for it.   It was a monster storm and I didn't want to get stuck in the mud with a tornado heading right towards us.  I decided to get a few lightning images then head to the motel.
