The first 2 weeks of May were very good for storms in Tornado Alley.  I had people from London England, Paris France and 3 from Ontario.

TORNADO WATCH!
Brenckenridge TX May 05
This storm went up along the Dryline and also had a Wall Cloud and a wide Funnel Cloud as it crossed the Interstate right in front of us!

FUNNEL CLOUD! & SVR STORM WARNING May 05
Several Boundaries came together along the Dryline and one severe thunderstorm went up in the afternoon hours.  When 2 or more boundaries overlap, it causes rotation at low levels and funnel clouds sometime form.  This is the Funnel Cloud that formed under the Brenkenridge TX Cell.  VidCap image by Ben Fuller as the funnel cloud crossed I 20 east of Abilene in front of the tour vans!

I am working on a Storm Chasing DVD from my tornado chasing adventures.  Email me at va3tvs@hotmail.com to place your order. $20

TORNADO WARNING! Brownwood Texas May 08
This severe storm grew to over 75,000 feet with 3 inch hail!  It also formed along the dryline and provided a stunning orange sunset image!  Note Mammatus Clouds on underside of Anvil deck.  This was one of the largest storms I have ever seen!  Image by Ron

FUNNEL CLOUD! & SVR STORM
Palo Duro Canyon
May 10
This storm formed on the dryline but was previously outflow dominant until it interacted with several outflow boundaries.  This Funnel Cloud was the result.
It was awesome to be right near it!  By Ron

MAY 11, 2009.  Time for Ron to rest by the highway!  Not much to do but sit, read and wait (and wait, and wait, and wait ...)  At least I have the basics:  my storm chase manual written by Tim Marshall, my large cup of MoJo, and well, you can see what else I needed after some good ole Texas chili and a few beefy tacos!

TORNADO WARNING! Billings Oklahoma May 13
Another storm cell interacts with outflow boundaries to form a Rotating Wall Cloud.  SKYWARN confirmed a tornado touchdown from the funnel of this Wall Cloud.  The funnel is right where it should be, beside the rear flank.  When we got into the rain core, it turned a Yellowish/Greenish color as you can see below.  One minute later a Tornadic TVS signature was observed on the WSR-88D display.

CADILLAC RANCH along I40, west of Amarillo TX.  After a nice dinner at the Big Texan, the gang from the UK wanted to check it out.
Always a fun place to stop for a photo.

TORNADO WARNING! Tonkawa Oklahoma &
SVR T-Storm
Warning! May 13
This storm had a very powerful rain core but a weak rear flank.  The hail was up to golf balls, but the storms core was the real story.
Here, you can see the
Yellowish/Greenish color of a tornado warned storm.  If you experience this during the Summer months and severe weather is heading for you, take cover because a tornado could be embedded in the rain.  And remember to stay away from windows!

TORNADO WARNING!! Pampa Texas May 15
This Hybrid Tornadic Supercell formed all by itself on the Dryline and in a dry environment with little upper air ventillation.  It was a tough call, but after 20 minutes I decided on Pampa TX.  I had to get up throughout the night several times to check and double check my forecast.  In the morning, I was sure it would be Pampa.  Image by Ron along hwy 273, SE of Pampa.

TORNADO WARNING!!  Pampa Texas May 15
This is what all the Scientific Researchers wish for:  A slow moving Tornadic Supercell
on a highway!

TORNADO WARNING!! Pampa Texas May 15
This Trucker almost drove right in the middle of the Pampa Tornado!  At the last minute, he slammed on the brakes and did a 180 degree turn!  That was a close call!  Almost like in the movies!

Special Note: Ron would like to thank his Wife Sandra, Jack Kertzie and Ben Fuller for all their help on the tour.  It is a ton of hard work and effort by all involved.  Your efforts and assistance, are very much appreciated.  It wouldn't have been the same without you!

TORNADO WARNING!! Pampa Texas May 15
This
AWESOME Supercell formed on the dryline in a dry lower end environment and with very little upper air support.
It was very difficult to forecast.  It took me over 20 minutes to overlay 60 weather pages to get it right.  In the morning I thought Pampa was the town of choice.  Here, it rapidly increases in rotation intensity.  This Ultra Wide 10mm image was taken 2 miles SE of Pampa on highways 171/273.  The tornado was moving SE along hwy 273 at 18mph.

The NWS from Amarillo TX confirmed EF2 damage on it as 1/2 mile wide with 2 satellite tornadoes and a total of 5 tornadoes!
NWS report can be seen below:

One of my top 5 proudest forecasts to date.

My top 5 also includes the F5 Greensburg KS tornado, the 2 mile wide F4 Hallam NE tornado, my 9:00am Little Rock AR tornado forecast (it was reported at 8:56am, 2 miles SW of LR) and the Mildmay Ontario tornado on July 08 2007
