Tornado Warning! Bogue Kansas June 09 2005.
A few of
these video files were uploaded to CNN by KWCH Channel 12 in Wichita Kansas. KWCH Channel 12 is an affiliate of CNN &
CBS World News. I am now a freelance video stringer of Channel 12 Eyewitness News in Wichita Kansas, under contract for CNN
& CBS World News.
I would like to thank Channel 12, Eyewitness News Director, Mr. Don North, and CH.12 Chase
News Director, Mr. Scott Roberts, for welcoming me to their station.
Note: A very special thank you goes out to
my good friend, KWCH Channel 12 Assistant News Director, Nickie Flynn (hi Nickie!) Channel 12 Eyewitness News, for getting
my video uploaded to CNN.
Nickie also made an effort for me to speak directly with Mr. Dan Noel. Dan Noel is
the Midwest Video Boss for CBS World News, Fox News, and ABC.
This is for the purpose of mobile SKYWARN spotting
(from a safe distance) to assist both the Wichita NWS and Wichita SKYWARN Net Control severe weather operations.

Tornado Warning! Rotating Wall Cloud prior to tornadic development.
This intense, rotating wall cloud produced a brief, needle type tornado near Damar Kansas, June 09, 2005.
Rotating
Wall Clouds like this can produce tornadoes, severe wind damage from RFD (Rear Flank Downdraft) and Microburst winds as high
as 160 KPH, (this RFD was approximately 120 to 130KPH) and very large hail up to the size of softballs.
After
this picture was taken, I had to back up down this dirt road about 1/2 mile to stay safe from both RFD and Microburst winds.

Tornado Warning! HP Supercell Thunderstorm
(High Precipitation) Badlands South Dakota June 06, 2005.
HP Storms are very
dangerous in both high winds and flooding rain producers. If 2 or more of these storms are forming and going over the same
area on a convergence zone, this leads to "training" of supercells or shelf clouds. This "Train Effect"
often leads to flooding, or in extreme cases, Flash Flooding.
If the NWS (National Weather Service) or EC (Environment
Canada) issues a "Flash Flood Warning", please head to higher ground. Flash Flooding is a rapid rise of water and
a high flow of water from excessive rainfall. Stay away from rivers, streams, creeks or low lying areas. Remember, "Turn
around, Don't drown!"

Tornado Warning! Wrapped by rain! Chasing in June 2005, south
central Kansas with Dan Wexler VA3WXX, Bob Berry VA3WXW and Steve.
We hooked up on the road, had a huge breakfast
at Denny's, shared the driving and navigating, chased hard and played hard too! We had a blast! In more ways than one! Time
to move! Right now! LOL!
The lengendary Mr. Gene Moore www.chaseday.com was also on the storm this day, but the
"gang" never met up with him. I met up with Mr. Moore a few days after the "gang" split up.
Gene Moore is the Guinness World Record Title Holder as the person who has sighted the most tornadoes in over 30 years of
storm chasing. Gene has seen over 263 tornadoes and has replaced over 40 windshields in his chasing career.

Tornado Warning! Mesocyclone with rainbow and hail, Badlands SD,
June 2005.
A Mesocyclone is a rotating supercellular thunderstorm. They are some of the most beautifull, but
dangerous weather systems in the World. "Meso" is Greek for Middle, while "Cyclone" is a term given to
all "rotating masses". Hurricanes are cyclones as well as supercells.
Hurricanes, Typhoons, and Tropical
Cyclones are all "Cyclones", but they are given different names based on where they form in different regions around
the globe.
Hurricanes form in the N Atlantic and NE Pacific Oceans, while a Typhoon forms in the NW Pacific Ocean.
Tropical Cyclones form in the SW Indian Ocean.
A tropical cyclone is the generic term for a non-frontal synoptic
scale low-pressure system over tropical or sub-tropical waters with organized convection (i.e. thunderstorm activity) and
definite cyclonic surface wind circulation ( taken from AOML Hurricane Research Division at: http://www.aoml.noaa.gov/hrd/tcfaq/A1.html
)
A "Super Typhoon" has a 1 minute minimum wind speed at the surface of 150MPH, or 241KPH.

Tornado Warning! & Rotating Wall Cloud Morland Kansas June 09,
2005. Note SRH Corkscrewing in Beaver Tail! Awesome stuff!! By Ron VA3TVS.
This Tornadic storm
had a rotating beaver tail into the rotating wall cloud and subsequent tornado. Very nice I must admit. This storm system
was tracking due east from the west and tracked slightly south of highway 24 in Graham County Kansas.
I forecasted,
intercepted and tracked several different supercells, rotating tornadic wall clouds and 7 different tornadoes on this day,
in Morland (2), Hill City (2), Damar (1), Bogue (1), and Palco (1). All of these tornadic events were in the state of Kansas,
northwest of Hays.
Jack Kertzie and I teamed up in 2004 and were able to forecast and intercept severeal tornadic
events, including the infamous Attica, KS tornado on May 12, 2004.
